The Latin name for horn banana is Musa paradisiaca. Sometimes it is called "cooking banana" or "plantain". The horn banana tree has a trunk height of 2.5–3 meters. It is quite tall compared to other bananas. So the leaves are often torn by the wind.
From this harvest, one bunch of bananas typically has two combs. Each comb consists of about 9 bananas, resulting in a total of approximately 18 bananas per bunch. The length of each banana fruit can reach up to 30 cm.
Initially, the banana flower emerges upright, resembling a shorter, leaf-like bud.
The banana flower stalk resembles a leaf stem, and the developing flower buds appear reddish.
Once the flowers have fully bloomed and their petals have fallen, the fruit begins to develop. This why in Javanese, this banana is referred to as "pisang byar".
The taste of this banana is sweet, slightly sour, soft, and slightly spongy and sticky. It is usually cooked as fried bananas or steamed.
As the above photo, several banana shoots grow well between the stems in the yard. Later, some of the banana shoots will be removed because they are too close together.
Too close distance between trees can cause them to compete for nutrients from the soil, and less sunlight exposure.
Little special care is required. Typically, the area around the trunk is kept clean, and wilted leaves are removed to allow sunlight to reach the plant. Bananas generally need full sunlight, or at least half a day of sun exposure.
The soil should be kept moist but not waterlogged or muddy. It's helpful to create a water channel about one meter around the tree to prevent waterlogging. When fruiting, the tree may need support to prevent it from falling over.
Some of the health benefits of horn bananas include improved liver health, increased red blood cell count, relief of asthma symptoms, enhanced brain health, and improved digestion.
There is almost no special care given. Usually just cleaning the area around the trunk. Shaving wilted leaves so that sunlight is not blocked. Bananas usually need sunlight all day, at least half a day (50%).
The soil is quite moist but not muddy or waterlogged. It is necessary to provide a water channel around one meter of the tree area, so that it is not muddy. When bearing fruit, the tree sometimes needs to be supported so that it does not fall over.
