Mini Ambarella Ornamental Tree Fruits Productive

The Ambarella fruit, scientifically known as Spondias dulcis, is also known as the Golden Apple or Ambarella, a tropical fruit tree with edible fruit. Spondias dulcis is a versatile tree with a variety of uses, and its fruit is a popular ingredient in many tropical dishes.

• Origin and Distribution:

This plant is native to the Indo-Malaysian region to Tahiti and has spread widely throughout the tropics.

• Fruit Characteristics:

Ambarella fruit is oval, green when young, and turns yellowish-green when ripe. The flesh is crispy with a sweet-sour flavor.

The maximum tree height can reach 15 meters.

Mini Ambarella

The photo above shows a mini ambarella already bearing fruit, with a tree about 50 cm tall. The mini ambarella is a variety of ambarella plant that is smaller than the typical ambarella, both in terms of tree height and fruit size. This plant, also known as Bangkok ambarella, has the advantage of bearing fruit quickly and being able to bear fruit all year round.

Here are some important points about mini ambarella:

Size:

Mini ambarella trees reach a maximum height of around 2-3 meters, much shorter than regular ambarella.

Fruit:

Mini ambarella fruit is oval-shaped, has a sour and slightly sweet taste, and is perfect for making rujak (fruit salad), pickles, or preserves.

Advantages:

Mini ambarella is known for being very early-growing, meaning it bears fruit quickly. Some sources state that this plant can begin bearing fruit at 1-2 years old. Furthermore, mini ambarella trees can bear fruit all year round.

Care:

Mini ambarella is relatively easy to care for, and some even say it doesn't require special fertilization to produce fruit.

Suitable for Potted Plants:

Due to its relatively small size, mini ambarella is very suitable for growing in pots (potted flowering plants). Can be propagated by cuttings or grafting.

Ambarella trees generally begin to bear fruit 1-2 years after planting, especially the mini ambarella variety. The main harvest season for ambarella in Indonesia usually occurs during the rainy season, around January to March, although some also bear fruit outside of this season.

The leaves are pinnate, with 5-11 leaflets.

Uses

1. Food: The fruit is edible and can be eaten raw, cooked, or used in jams and preserves. In addition to the fruit, the leaf tips of the mini ambarella can also be used as a spice to add a sour flavor to dishes.

2. Medicine: The bark, leaves, and fruit of this tree have been used in traditional medicine for various purposes.

3. Wood: The wood is sometimes used to make furniture and other wood products.

Cultivation

Spondias dulcis prefers tropical climates with high humidity and warm temperatures.

This tree can grow in a variety of soil types, but prefers moist, but not soggy, soil with good drainage.

Ambarella trees require at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for healthy growth and optimal fruit production.
